The GIA team and our NYC Conference Planning Committee have together decided that – in order to keep each other’s health and safety a priority – we will reimagine the annual conference as a virtual convening. As a planning team, we will strive to create a virtual space where our community can gather, learn, question, strategize, and celebrate together. We commit to maintaining connection with friends and colleagues who are working toward racial equity and justice, co-creating more resilient systems, and imagining a world without structural inequities through arts and culture. While we will not be anchored in any one city, we will have a unique opportunity to connect from each of our home communities to reflect on the challenges the cultural ecosystem faces - rooted in systemic racism and amplified by the coronavirus pandemic – and imagine new systems of power and practice for a more resilient future. In this spirit of our original intentions for this gathering, we honor the tremendous inventiveness necessary of both resiliency and creativity. We commit to taking the best of disparate elements to make something new, a reinvention, a remix.
